Welcome to Gray Dog Press!

This last summer was a great one for us at GDP! We released a couple of really great books by Spokane area authors.

One of our favorites is a collection of essays and short stories by Robert Pillsbury titled Crossroads: Stories and Essays From A Wandering Mind, and it does not disappoint. Robert manages to take you into his wandering mind and discuss the history of Groundhog Day in one essay only to follow with a thought provoking short story the next. My personal favorite is the title story, Crossroads, where an all important Production Supervisor gets stranded in the farm country outside of the big city. His character, Henry Potter, like most of us takes for granted his stature and importance in life. After an encounter with a non-assuming farmer he leaves with plenty to consider in his own life.

The Summer Issue of SpokeWrite came out and was a great success. We had many first time authors lending their stories and essays as well a number of returning writers. Our next issue is going to be released during the first week of October.

In August we released another work from Creston author Dawn Nelson. Her first book, A Cowgirl Remembers When, has been one of our better selling books over the summer. Her newest book, Cowgirl’s Justice, was released in August and is the first in The Rancher Series. It is a contemporary western involving romance, intrigue, and murder in the town of Danville, Washington.

Spokane’s Joy McMahon has been actively promoting her new book, Ageless at 75: How I reversed My Biological Clock And You Can Too! Joy is a certified Acu-Pressurist and now shares her tip for looking much younger than you are.

New works slated for release in coming weeks are:

The Treehouse by Bob Manion. A contemporary “coming of age” romance in a military and legal setting.

Love Never Ages: Love Notes and Poems by Merle P. Martin. He shares his thoughts about love and his notes given to his wife Dotty over the last couple of decades.

Not One Drop of Blood by John Heffernan. John was a parole and probation officer who became the warden and supervisor for Geiger Correctional, Airway Heights Correctional and Pine Lodge Correctional facilities. His memoirs detail his time and experience in helping develop and run these facilities west of Spokane, Washington.

Keep and eye out for them.

  • The new blog looks excellent!

Gray Dog has a nice lineup of books from 2009, with some yet to come.

I’m excited that my books are part of the 2010 release schedule [Look for an announcement here soon, or check out my blog at http://frankzafiro.blogspot.com.

Working with Russ Davis and discussing books has been a pleasure. I feel like my work is in great hands. It’s obvious that GDP wants to feature local authors and settings heavily while still growing the publishing company. The level of ambition is, I believe, both healthy and realistic. I look forward to seeing my books published under the Gray Dog Press banner.
