Book Printing and Production Overview

Gray Dog Press has been providing digital short run soft cover book printing and production to individuals, companies, and other publishers for many years.

We produce high-quality books and we do so at very cost competitive rates. For “pull the trigger and go” projects from your supplied files, we do not have a setup fee. When you send us your files we make and send you a production quality proof copy at no charge. And we ship in whatever manner you choose and charge only actual shipping and container cost.

Our house text paper stock is high-grade, acid-free, FSC Certified in white 50#, 60#, 70# or 80# matte, natural 60#, 70# or 80# matte, and 80# or 100# gloss. Cover stocks are 80# or 100# digital, or 10pt or 12pt C1S. Other papers are available on request. Laminates are available in gloss, soft-touch matte, or smooth matte finish.

Trim sizes can be pretty much anything you want, we do not have any specific requirements. We have produced books sized at 4 X 6, 6 X 6 (which was really cool by the way), and all manner of trade sizes up to 8-1/2 X 11. Depending on the interior paper used, page counts can be as low as 32 and as high as 750.

Based on our knowledge and experience with our materials, processes, and equipment we can provide you with recommendations to get the best look for your books. You, of course, ultimately decide which course to take. And we offer a quality assurance guarantee.

Since each book has its own unique characteristics and page count a “one-size-fits-all” pricing model is nearly impossible to do. For more information or to get an estimate for your next project either fill out that quote form below, or simply contact us via email at sales@graydogpress.com including as much information possible or call 509.534.0372 Monday through Friday from 9:00am-5:00pm pacific time.

Format:
All covers assume a 4/0 process color with bleed and no printing on the inside of the cover. In most cases the 80# Digital is an excellent choice for all laminated covers. The heavier 100# Digital or 12pt C1S can stress the binding on books with fewer than 80 pages. Also, if a laminate is applied the coating on a C1S will become irrelevant.
